Distemper canino y su impacto en la fauna silvestre

Resumen

El distemper canino (DC) o moquillo canino es una enfermedad infecciosa multisistémica causada por un morbillivirus de la familia Paramixoviridae. El DC ha sido considerado una de las enfermedades contagiosas más graves de los perros, así como de otros carnívoros (Harder y Osterhaus, 1997; Baumgartner et al., 2003; Beineke, Baumgärtner y Wohlsein, 2015). Incluso, según Terio y Craft (2013), debería ser denominado como distemper de los carnívoros, en vez de distemper canino, por el gran número de hospederos carnívoros. El agente causal fue aislado en 1905 por Henri Carré, de allí el nombre de enfermedad de Carré que también recibe (Carré, 1905). Edward Jenner lo describió magistralmente en 1809 (Jenner, 1809). Se describen varios biotipos del virus del distemper canino (VDC) con diferente histotropismo, aunque existe un solo tipo antigénico. Ciertos aislados virales, como las cepas Snyder Hill, A75/17 y R52, son altamente virulentos y neurotrópicos, mientras que las cepas Rockborn y Snyder Hill causan polioencefalomielitis, y otras producen desmielinización (Berríos y Enciso, 2013).
