Abstract

Dentistry is no stranger to the use of X-ray equipment, because they help diagnose, detect and control pathologies. It is estimated that 520 million people undergo these tests each year; but the radiation emitted by x-ray equipment can have an effect on cellular tissue, which depends on the dose, time and type of tissue. For this reason, the main institutions have established standards, guides and instructions on radiological protection, which help prevent and reduce biological effects and risks in people. The purpose of this article is to review the main standards, regulations, guides and instructions regarding radiological protection for the use of X-ray equipment in dentistry.
