Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a condition with a high impact on morbidity and mortality, as it increases the risk of respiratory infections, especially in older adults due to their frailty and multiple comorbidities. Therefore, it is important to analyze a possible association between COPD and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data, which included 1,870 older adults from the Naval Medical Center of Peru. Bivariate analysis and Poisson regression were performed to adjust the association. Among the participants, 21.18% had COPD and 14.76% had CAP. A significant association was found between COPD and CAP, with an adjusted prevalence ratio of 2.22 (95% CI: 1.78–2.75), indicating more than double the risk of CAP in patients with COPD. Other variables such as age, smoking, and previous hospitalizations did not show a significant association. This study concludes that there is an association between the history of COPD and CAP.
