Abstract

The exponential growth in the urban population, combined with a new volatility in meteorological events caused by climate change of anthropogenic origin, constitute challenges to achieving new scenarios defined by alternative environmental conditions. There exist certain environmental models that link natural systems with built environments and bring society closer to nature, combining spatial adaptations and behavior patterns with the fulfilment of sustainable development goals. The aim of this article is to identify the ecological structure and green areas of the city of Lima (associated with the Rímac River) that have the potential to produce the most favorable physical conditions for the achievement of urban resilience and sustainability, in the quest for a better quality of life for citizens and a system for adaptation to adverse climatic phenomena through an urban ecology-based approach.
