About the Journal
Focus and scope
South Sustainability is a peer review, open access and multidisciplinar journal focused on research and development on diverse fields related to environmental sustainability. Edited by Environmental Science Department from the Universidad Científica del Sur (Lima, Perú) and open for publications, free of charges, for researchers, profesionals and students.
The publication is biannual, first number in January-June and the second in July-December. The focus of the publications is both regional and international. Original research articles, review articles, methods, policy briefs and letters to the editor are admited for publication. For further information the Author Guidelines/a can be consulted.
Research themes accepted in the next fields of study both in basic and applied research:
- Conservation and ecology, Agronomy, Atmosferic science, Biogeochemistry, Civil engeeniring, Urbanistic science and studies, Envirommental engineering, Envirommental science, Forestry science, Agroforestry engineering, Geography, Hidrology and water studies, Industrial ecology, oceanography, Soil science and renewable energy.
Peer review process
The aceptance of the papers will be through a peer review by experts on the topyc (external to the Editorial Commettee). The process consists in a simple blind peer review. The papers submited for revision will have a confidential character during the process, that's why the reviewer could not spread, discuss or use the information included in it.
Open access policy
South Sustainability is an open access journal based on the support to the free knowledgement, and is ruled under a Creative Commons de Reconocimiento (CC BY 4.0) licence. This means that you are free to share and adapt, provided that 1) credit must be properly acknowledged and reported if changes have been made to the original work. You may do so in any reasonable way, but not in a way that suggests that you or your use is endorsed by the licensor. 2) No legal or technological limitations may apply that restrict the use permitted by this license..
- Ethics on the research
The Editorial Commettee will reject the publication of researches that break the ethic criteria that every research must meet. Se acoge a las recomendaciones del Code of Conduct for Journal Editors from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
En el caso de que se presenten investigaciones realizadas en seres humanos, se deberá mencionar de manera expresa que los procedimientos fueron realizados respetando las normas éticas concordantes con la Declaración de Helsinki; en el caso que las investigaciones se realizaron en animales, se recomienda el uso de la Guía para el cuidado y uso de animales de laboratorio de la National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.
- Ethics on the publications en la publicación
According to COPE, every research:
- Must be conducted in a ethic and responsible way.
- Must be showed in a clear, honest, with no fabrication, falsification or manipulation of data.
- Must include clear infromation about the methods, unambigueosly, wiht the purpose that the discoverys could be confirmed by external researchers (in case of research studies).
- Must be original, no-plagiarism and haven't been published before in other journal.
- Must state clearly that the authors assume colective responsabilities on the whole content of their publication.
- Must reflect a correct relation between the authorship and the contribution of all the co-authors in the development of the research (not honorary authorship, ghost autorship, etc).
- Must contain detailed information about the source of fundings and the conflicts of interest.
All the articles submited to the jorunal will be checked by Turnitin antiplagiarism system. In case of detecting plagiarism, the Editorial Commettee will decide the procedure to follow according to the COPE suggestions and could be rejected for publication.
In the event that any lack of ethic would be detected, during the revision process or after publication, the jorunal will act according to the COPE recommendations. The final decission could include the correction or retraction of the article by the authors, the Editorial Commettee reserve the right to inform the respectiv authorities or to other journal editors.
This jorunal will take into account the criteria for authorship of the Council of Science Editors, según los cuales los autores son individuos identificados por el grupo de investigación por haber hecho contribuciones sustanciales a la investigación y están de acuerdo en ser tenidos en cuenta por esta contribución. Por otro lado un autor debe de tener confianza en la integridad de la contribución de sus co-autores.
Se incluirá el papel de cada autor en la sección adecuada del artículo. Además todos los coautores deben haber revisado y aprobado el artículo.
The order of the authors must be according to their contributions: the first author should be the person who most work carry on and the last author should be reserved to the Main Researcher (or senior researcher) The identification of the authors is responsability of the persons who did the research and is not responsability of the Editorial Commettee. In this way the researches must decide who contributed enough to the work to be considered author.

- Peer review
The revision process will be entrusted to external experts on the field of the article, and at the same time external to the Editorial Commettee of the journal South Sustainability.
The articles submited to revision will be confidential during the process; thus, the reviwer can not leak out, comment or use the information included in them.
Besides evaluating the originality and the authenticity of the article, the reviewer provides a report including comments and suggestions for improvement. On the other hand the reviewer should report misconducts on the text in case of find them. The breach of this las point would be considered a serious foul.
In the case the reviewer report any conflict of interest, the Editorial Committee reserves the right of the exemption of the article evaluation.
All the articles submitted to South Sustainability will be evaluated in first instance by a collegiate decision by the Editors in Chief and in some cases also by a Associate Editor with expertice in the area of the research. This first decision will take into account the interest for the journal, the originality criteria and the compliance of the author´ s guideline. The decision could be the acceptance, rejection or request of modifications.
Once the article is acepted in the first revision, it woul be sent to 2 reviewers (external to the Editorial Committee) with recognized expertise in the topic. This revisions consist in a simple blind (the reviewers maintain the anonymity) and ad honorem. The reviewer´ s decision could be acceptance for publication without changes, the rejection for publication or the request of modifications to solve (this modifications could be mayor revisions or minor revisions). The Editorial Committee reserves the right to send the article to a different reviewer in case of unsatisfactory answer. The Editorial Committee make the final decision about the publication of the article based on the reviewers suggestions.
En caso de tener que levantarse las observaciones, el autor debe responder con el artículo corregido y una carta respondiendo a los comentarios de lor revisores. El Comité Editorial decide si la versión corregida ha subsanado adecuadamente las observaciones o si se requiere una reevaluación. Finalmente, decidirá si es que el artículo es aceptado para publicación o es rechazado.
Each article acepted for publication the edition, layout and generation of the printed draft. The author will recibe the autor draft to check and correct any typographic error, along a prudential time decided by the editors. If therer is no response by the authors the final version will be considered as aproved.
