Resumen

Located in Lima, Peru, Los Pantanos de Villa wildlife refuge faces pollution issues stemming from the surrounding urban matrix. This has resulted in an impact on the wetland's biodiversity and a reduction in water bodies. In this context, this study proposes the need for an Environmental Education Center at the wetland, in order to promote environmental awareness and ecological balance. Through an assessment of completed and unfinished facilities, visual and landscape pollution was identified, generated by the existing abandoned infrastructure of the Environmental, Recreation and Education Center (CREA). Visitor perception indicates high interest in a greater variety of recreational and educational spaces. At the same time, Prohvilla staff express the need for the improvement and expansion of the administrative facilities, and the creation of specialized areas for the performance of their duties and for the dissemination of environmental culture among the general public. Through the reviewing of architectural reference points in similar environments, common patterns were identified in design criteria and in the types of environments proposed. These results underscore the importance of exploring design guidelines that can serve as a foundation for developing an architectural project capable of effectively meeting the needs of its users and environmental education objectives. Finally, four design guidelines and an architectural program are presented for the Environmental Education Center at Los Pantanos de Villa.
